Setting up new features in RoseMail 1.60
========================================
Point to point messages across networks
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
a) You need to get yourself set up on the point to point map file.
To do this, call into Rose Media and enter the 'REGISTER' door.
When in the door, type 'MAP'. If it is your first time, you will be
asked for your point to point name. Remember what you enter and make
sure you know how it's spelled! Once this is done, you can enter the
system names of your 'neighbours' (those people who you call directly
or who call directly into you). You can only add known systems to
your neighbour list, so if a system does not exist, let them say that
you are a neighbour when they enter their point to point information
(Only one side of a connection has to specify the link). If your
connections ever change, log back into the REGISTER door and add or
drop systems to reflect the change.
The current MAPDAT and MAPDAT.NDX (point to point map information)
are available directly from Rose Media but will also be automatically
sent out and updated through the point to point system.
b) In RM, go into the 'Local board information' menu. Enter the point to
point map directory (the directory where your MAPDAT and MAPDAT.NDX
files are stored), your point to point name (as you entered into the
REGISTER door above), and the conference number that is to be used for
point to point mail. The point to point conference should be defined
as belonging to one of the networks of the system that you call into.
All net-sysops have point-to-point net-status in the point-to-point
conference on your system (even if they do not belong to the network
that the conference is defined in. This allows for point-to-point
across networks). Net-sysops will only get messages that need to
pass through there system to get to the final destination.
NOTE: The TO and FROM fields will appear strange on a point-to-point
message viewed on an intermediate system. This prevents people with
the same name (but on different systems) from intercepting messages.
c) Point to point messages MUST be entered in through the RoseMail door
(and any reader) or RRS (RoseReader-Sysop). For this reason, it is
suggested that you make the conference PRIVATE in the PCBoard
configuration. The conference can then be made public in the RoseMail
Door by setting the 'Conference flag' #13 for the point to point
conference.
d) AUTOMATIC MAP UPDATES. The RoseMail system has the facilities to
automatically transmit and update the point-to-point map files without
any user intervention (once configured). In most cases, you get the
most recent map file from systems you call into by using the online
RoseMail 'ADD' command and selecting 'M'ap (NOTE: This option will only
appear for point to point sysops). If, however, you get the new map
before a system you call into (ie. someone uploads the map to you), you
can send the map to systems you call into by placing a 'Y' in the 'MAP'
column of the 'Networks/Netmail' sub menu 'Available Networks'.
LHA/LHARC Support
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
LHA can now be used as a compression program in RoseReader. The ID
code required under 'Compression programs' is 'FF'. The compression
command must include the option '-m' so LHA does not comment about the
extension not being .LZH.
Sample setup:
Letter : L
ID : FF
Compression program : LHA A -M
Decompression program: LHA E
Trashcan
~~~~~~~~
If you do not wish to have messages to/from a particular user
(usually for netmail from other systems), you can create a trashcan
file. A trashcan file will become active if you enter a path/filename
for the TCAN file in the 'Local Board Information' menu. If you are not
using a trashcan, you should leave this entry blank for a slight
performance improvement. To edit the TCAN file, press F2 when you are
on the field asking for the TCAN file name. This will bring up a
listing of the current TCAN file. Users can be added to the list by
pressing 'A' and dropped from the list using 'D' while highlighting the
desired entry.
NOTE: If you just wish to prevent a local user from inserting into a
particular conference, you can use the existing RoseMail 'User Flag' #7
(or lock them out of the conference in PCBoard itself.)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE: As a RoseMail Sysop, you are entitled to carry the private
RM-Sysops Conference for RoseMail support. This Conference
is available on Rose Media directly (Conference 170), or
on U'NI-Net, SmartNet, Intelec and DevNet. All support on
the RoseMail Door is done in RM-Sysops.
